Making a U-turn To God
The Bible uses a special word to mean a “change of direction” – a “turn around” in heart and life. When people who are sinners by nature and choice hear the good news of Jesus Christ and his Salvation, they are asked to make a choice. They are challenged to make a U-turn to God.
Often when we hear the word we are afraid. It sounds so threatening to us. In fact when evangelists like Billy Graham often used the word they were quoting the Bible!
In New Testament times, it started with John the Baptist who said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:2)
When Jesus began to preach he used it too. We read, “After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. ‘The time has come,’ he said. ‘The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!’” (Mark 1:14-15)
